Stock Market Holiday: Will Dalal Street Remain Open or Closed on Maha Shivratri 2025?

Dalal Street was under pressure for the last two months, with both the Sensex and Nifty dropping continuously, but the market will finally get some relief on the 26th of February.

Stock market will remain shut on the 26th of February, Wednesday in celebration of Maha Shivratri. Each of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) as well as the National Stock Exchange (NSE) will observe a day of rest that will see the end of all trading during the entire day.

It will be the first share market holiday in 2025. According to the list of holidays released by the exchanges, there will be an overall total of 14 market holidays throughout the entire year.

Due to the celebration on Maha Shivratri 2025, there will be no trading in the equity segment including the equity derivatives segment, currencies derivatives commodities, interest rate derivatives and the security loan as well as lending (SLB) sector. The stock market open or closed on Mahashivratri, February 27 in accordance with the normal market times.

They are closed on Sundays and Saturdays. This year, however market hours were opened on Saturdays on February 1 to coincide with an Union Budget session.

When is Market Holiday?

In a typical day of trading on a typical trading day, the Indian stock market follows an orderly schedule, which includes:

• Opening session preliminarily: 9 am until 9:15 am
• Continuous trading session from 9:15 am until 3:00 pm
• Session to close: 3:40 until 4:00 4:40
• Morning block session for deals: 8:45 am until 9:00 am

The largest quantity of Maha shivratri stock market holiday will occur in October and April, with three holidays per month. In March, and in August, you will be two holidays per month. The months of February, May, November and December will all only have one stock market holiday per.
